Season series summary: Twins vs. Cardinals

5/16/2018

The Twins finished the season series vs. the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. They lost the series finale by a score of 7-5.
Overall a poor showing by the Twins. They made a small comeback attempt in the later innings. They got as close as 7-5 (the final score).

Overall the Twins won the season series 3 games to 1. Here are the final scores:
Game 1: Twins 6 Cardinals 0
Non contest.
Game 2: Twins 7 Cardinals 1
Non contest.
Game 3: Twins 4 Cardinals 1
Non contest.
Game 4: Twins 5 Cardinals 7
The most interesting game of the series was the finale. St. Louis decided to use their bats in this game, which the Twins were unprepared for. The Twins are not very good with trying to muster a comeback. So they tried but they could not advance past 5 runs. In the 8th inning, Minnesota had 2 in scoring position with 2 outs. But they could not gain those 2 runs because of a groundout at first (very controversial, and I think Molitor should have challenged) which ended the inning.

Overall, the Cardinals proved to be the wakeup call for the Twins. The beginning of this series sparked a five-game winning streak for the Twins.

Next up, the Twins will battle with the Brewers in a 3 game home series. Then, to finish up the home stand, Minnesota will take on a division opponent in the Tigers.

Go Twins!
