Vikings escape lambeau field with tie vs. the Packers

The Minnesota Vikings tied the Green Bay Packers at 29 on Sunday. Not exactly the most ideal result but one I would rather over a loss.

Game Summary:
This game did not go as I would have hoped. Not the greatest first half by the Vikings. But this changed drastically. In the second half the Vikings defense came out and held the Packers to only 3 points in the 3rd quarter. They looked more like the Vikings defense we all remember from last year and even last game. This was big for the Vikings offense, even though they couldn't capitalize.
The 4th quarter showed up and the Vikings offense marched down the field and capped off an excellent drive with a Cousins-Diggs connection touchdown. Then the Packers went down the field and kicked a 40 yard field goal. This made the lead go back to two scores. But, 2 plays later Cousins drops back launches it deep and finds Stefon Diggs again, this time for a 75 yard touchdown! (Longest of Diggs' career btw...) This brought the score to 20-23 with roughly 7:20 remaining in the game. The Packers then went down and kicked a field goal. The Vikings received the ball with 2:15 remaining in the game. On Cousins' first throw of the drive he throws a bullet to Laquon Treadwell and he tipped it and it was intercepted. At this point you would think the game was over. But it wasn't. The Vikings defense came out and allowed the Packers zero yards gained, and allowed a field goal. Not terrible, still a one possession game (8 points) with roughly 1:40 remaining in the game. The Vikings march down and Cousins throws his first touchdown of the season to Adam Thielen, one I might add will be on highlight reels for weeks I still can't believe how he got the ball. Cousins and the offense go for the 2-point conversion and Stefon Diggs does Diggs things and he catches the conversion to tie the game with 0:30 remaining in the game. Rodgers and the Packers stall behind the 50 after a devastating sack from Everson Griffen.
Overtime isn't much of a story. Just missed field goals. The Packers never got into good enough field position to justify a field goal so 2 missed FGs by Daniel Carlson.
Overall I think the offense is starting to click. Cousins has connected to 4 receivers on touchdowns so he is spreading the ball around. Hopefully they come out swinging next week!
Carlson is (or should be) on thin ice. He missed 3 field goals today, all I might add are ones he should make. The longest try of the day was a 48-yarder, an exactly replica of one he made last week. The others were considerably closer. I say we give him one more shot next week, otherwise he is gone.

NFC North Update
The Vikings and Packers are still tied at the top of the division with a 1-0-1 record. The Detroit Lions are playing as I am writing this and the Bears play on Monday night against Seattle.

Injury Update
Multiple players went out today with injury. I will give a quick overview of all of them.
Dalvin Cook, RB: Cook had an average day and went out in the very end of the 4th quarter with an apparent injury to his leg or knee. Coach Zimmer has said that he will be fine. I will leave it at that.
Danny Isidora, OL: He went out halfway through the 4th quarter with an ankle injury. Word is that it is not long term. Will hear more later.
Marcus Sherels, PR/DB: I did not hear about this one until the game ended. He apparently went out at the end of the 3rd quarter with an injury I could not find anywhere.

Up Next
Next week should be a tune-up game for the Vikings as they come home to play the struggling Buffalo Bills. They play at home and kickoff is at noon CT on September 23rd.

SKOL Vikings!
