Game Summary:
Minnesota's opening script working very well, Cousins and the offense drove down to score with a pass to Justin Jefferson. However, it would be very slow going after that. Both teams traded punts for much of the first half, including a drive that ended with Cousins throwing a pick that bounced off Jefferson into the hands of the Washington defender. With under a minute left in the 1st half, Washington hit a 44 yard field goal.
In the second half, the Vikings defense struggled out of the gate. They gave up a short drive that ended in a Commanders touchdown to take the lead. This continued into the 4th quarter when the Commanders scored another touchdown to deliver a 10 point advantage. But, the Vikings slowly started creeping back into the game. On the next drive after the defense gave up a touchdown, Minnesota kicked a 25 yard field goal to reduce the deficit to 7. Then the Vikings picked off Heinicke to get the ball in the redzone. Minnesota then scored 4 plays later on a short pass to Dalvin Cook. Washington attempted to do something but was forced to punt. Minnesota then grabbed the ball and slowly but surely drove down the field. They were lining up for a field goal, but Washington was flagged for touching the center and Minnesota got 4 more plays. This enabled the Vikings to wind down the clock and kick the eventual game-winning 28 yard field goal. Washington got the ball back with 12 seconds remaining but couldn't do anything with it. Minnesota escapes Landover with a 3 point victory, continuing their streak of wins and their streak of close wins both to 6 games.

NFC North Update
At this point in the year, one can gain a good idea of playoff picture with a glance at the standings. Minnesota remains in first place with a 7-1 record and 3-0 record in the division. Green Bay is in second place with a 3-6 record and a 1-2 record in the division. Chicago is in third place with a 2-6 record and a 0-2 record in the division. Detroit is still in last place with a 2-6 record and a 1-1 record in the division. This means at this point, that this division lead is Minnesota's to win or lose. The Vikings are in the drivers seat for the playoffs just nine weeks in. Lots of season left though. Minnesota currently sits in second place in the NFC behind the undefeated Eagles.

Injury Update
DT Dalvin Tomlinson did not play today due to injury.
CB Cam Dantzler left the game in the 3rd quarter with an ankle injury and did not return.
QB Kirk Cousins briefly left the game in the 4th quarter with an unknown injury but returned shortly after.

Up Next
Now the Vikings will continue their road quest when they roll into Buffalo next Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 PM CT.
