Minnesota Timberwolves Hire Tim Connelly as President of Basketball Operations

Yesterday, the Timberwolves officially hired Tim Connelly as their new President of Basketball Operations. In the NBA this is essentially the GM position we know of in other sports.

Connelly previously was with the Denver Nuggets, and was hired away to work in Minnesota. In Denver he worked as both the POBO and the Vice President of Basketball Ops. He is responsible for the following picks:
B. Hyland (26th, 2021)
Z. Nnaji (22nd, 2020)
R. Hampton (24th, 2020)
M. Porter Jr. (14th, 2018)
J. Vanderbilt (41th, 2018) - Current Wolves Starting Forward
M. Morris (51st, 2017)
J. Murray (7th, 2016) - Current Nuggets Starting Guard
J. Hernangomez (15th, 2016)
M. Beasley (19th, 2016) - Current Wolves Backup Guard
J. Nurkic (16th, 2014)
G. Harris (19th, 2014)
N. Jokic (41st, 2014) - 2 time MVP, Current Nuggets Starting Center

He is viewed across the NBA as a draft wizard, which the Wolves could use. Connelly hasn't spent much time picking in the lottery, in fact he has only picked one lottery pick as number 7 back in 2016 and he selected Jamal Murray. Since the Wolves hope to no longer picking in the lottery unless they trade for a pick, Connelly could be of huge use for Minnesota's draft going forward. They also plan on pairing him next to current Vice President of Basketball Operations Sachin Gupta. Gupta made all the GM decisions for the Wolves this season after the team fired former POBO Gersson Rosas 3 days before training camp opening in the Fall. Many inside the organization felt that Gupta should be elevated to the POBO role, especially head coach Chris Finch. From the sounds of it, Gupta is staying for now. But I wouldn't expect him to stay for too much longer, if the Wolves continue to have more success next season I would think he would be fielding offers all over the league. Count on Gupta leaving after this next season ends, mainly because I do think he is capable of being a POBO and a good one at that.

The NBA Draft is in one month and the Wolves now have the draft wizard on their side, so hopefully it all pays off.
