NDSU athletics had kind of a melancholy week.

The Bison would bounce back from a two game losing streak with a 78-72 win over the Roos. On Saturday, NDSU would enter the typically-quiet Baxter Arena to a very different sight. While facing a much better Omaha team, they were greeted by 2,000+ fans in a game that they just couldn't quite get over the hump. The Bison would fall to the Mavs, 74-85, and would complete a season sweep for the first time in Division I history for Omaha. Football NDSU Football went down to Frisco, Texas to play in their 11th national championship game against top seeded Montana State. The game was played on a Monday night for the first time since the 2010, and definitely had an electric atmosphere! The Bison started with the ball and would put up two touchdowns in the 1st quarter. The Bobcats wouldn't score until a field went through the uprights in the 2nd quarter, the Bison would tack on another touchdown before halftime. Coming out of the locker room, the Bobcats would find their stride on offense, and put up two touchdowns to draw within a field goal of the Bison. NDSU would finally respond though and put up their first second half TD. This would be a game of back and forth for a bit, as Montana State would answer back. NDSU would get a crucial touchdown with 2:40 to go in the game. Montana State would need to get a touchdown and a field goal to tie the game. The Bobcats drove down and were able to score a touchdown with about 1:08 remaining in the game. NDSU would manage to whittle the entire remaining time off the clock after an onside kick recovery. The Bison have won their 10th FCS national title and 18th title overall!! Its party time folks!!! The National Champion North Dakota State Bison football team finishes the season with a 7-1 MVFC record and a 14-2 record overall. Football NDSU Football had the last couple weeks off after defeating SDSU in the FCS semifinals before Christmas. This week, they will head down to Frisco, Texas for the 12th time in program history. They will face top seeded and ranked Montana State when they kickoff at 6:00 PM on Monday, January 6th on ESPN. This will be yet another familiar face, as these teams have faced off in almost every season since 2019, and it will be a rematch of last year's FCS second round thriller that ended in overtime when Bison defender Hunter Poncious blocked the Bobcats' extra point that would have sent the game to a second overtime. North Dakota State Football is 7-1 in MVFC play and 13-2 overall on the season. Men's Basketball NDSU Men's Basketball hosted Cal State Bakersfield on Monday for a conclusion of the in-season home and home contract between the two schools. The Bison roared out to a 40 point advantage in the 1st half and never looked back, defeating the Roadrunners, 94-60. North Dakota State Men's Basketball is 11-4 overall on the season. North Dakota State Women's Basketball is 8-5 overall on the season. Go Bison!! It was great week to a Bison!!
Football NDSU Football hosted archrival South Dakota State for the FCS semifinal playoff matchup at the Fargodome this weekend. The Bison started the game off on the right note, scoring a touchdown on the opening possession. Unfortunately, the Jacks would score soon after. SDSU would score again early in the 2nd quarter to take their first lead of the game. NDSU would punt and it was looking like the Jacks might be able to take a 2 score lead on the Bison. But then NDSU's defense poked out a fumble and recovered it. The Bison would use that to go down and score a touchdown to tie the game up at 14 going into halftime. The 3rd quarter would end up being lots of punts from both teams. Early in the 4th quarter, NDSU broke the ice again and scored yet another touchdown. SDSU would quickly respond back to keep the game tied. But then, NDSU would orchestrate a 8 play, 75 yard drive that will go down as one of the most important in Bison football history. It was capped off with a spectacular one handed grab by Bryce Lance (who had all 3 receiving touchdowns on the day) for a touchdown! NDSU would then have to defend against the SDSU offense. But for the second time this season, the Bison defense would hold SDSU out, this time with a crucial 4th and long sack! The Bison are going back to Frisco for the 11th time in program history! They will matchup against top-seeded Montana State. North Dakota State Football is 7-1 in MVFC play and 13-2 overall on the season. It was another great week to be a Bison!!
Football NDSU Football welcomed 7th seeded Mercer to the Fargodome this week for the first ever matchup between the two programs in the FCS quarterfinal. The Bison started the game fast, going up 14-0 midway in the 1st quarter. Mercer would soon score though for what would be the only time. NDSU will put more points on the board with a field goal and touchdown in the 2nd quarter. But the defenses took over in the 2nd half, with NDSU scoring the lone touchdown late in the 4th quarter. The Bison started fast, but just seemed to settle in too much midway in the game. The offense lacked the spark they have had previous, as QB Cam Miller threw two picks that were reflections on him. If NDSU wants to continue on in the postseason, they need to get the offense in order for a good performance next week. This week, the Bison will host 3rd seeded South Dakota State for the FCS semifinal. It will be the 6th time the two teams have brought their rivalry to the FCS playoffs, with NDSU holding the lead at 4-1 in those games. Men's Basketball NDSU Men's Basketball had one heck of a week!! On Tuesday, the Bison traveled to Indianapolis to play Butler of the Big East in their first nationally televised game of the season. NDSU would perform magic, and pure domination - especially in the first half. The Bison would storm out to a 20 point lead at the halftime break, but allowed the Bulldogs back in the game in the second half. But NDSU was not done yet, as Northern State transfer Jackson Moni would make his presence known and lead the Bison to their first high-major win since 2014! It would also be NDSU's second win over a Big East team, the only other being an upset over Marquette back in 2006 during the Division I transition. The Bison would then come home to host Wisconsin-Stout of the Division III ranks. Contrary to the earlier games against lesser opponents, the Bison would handle Stout in a 91-62 win. NDSU would then host Western Michigan on Sunday for a completion of the contract that started last season. The Bison would dominate the Broncos in a 98-62 win. This week, the Bison will take some time off to rest, recover and study for finals. They will be back in action on December 23rd when they host Cal State Bakersfield. North Dakota State Men's Basketball is 10-4 overall on the season. Women's Basketball NDSU Women's Basketball would have a different week then the men.
