Bison Athletic Teams in Full Swing after Busy Weekend!

2/20/2021

Its been a busy weekend here on NDSU's campus! SDSU came to town to play both basketball teams, Western Illinois came to town to play the women's soccer team, and Youngstown State came to town to play the football team.

Men's Basketball
Say what you want about the the final outcomes, the Bison are still in this conference and are here to stay at the top. The loss this weekend came because of some costly mistakes on offense, and the win was almost toppled by a SDSU comeback but the Bison held on to beat the Jackrabbits in a score that tied the season high 84-82.
How did they get to this point?
We left off after the Bison split the series with the Fighting Hawks in Grand Forks, where this team was still cruising through the conference schedule to get to the hardest stretch of the year.
They started off by sweeping Denver at home by a total of 38 points combined between both games. Very much a confidence booster in a low key home matchup.
After that the Bison headed down I-29 to Kansas City for their first ever matchup against the Roos. The first night the Bison prevailed 71-67, the second the Bison dropped after several key turnovers in a low scoring 47-49 loss. I somewhat expected this since the Bison have never seen Kansas City before, so this was a decent result.
Now the Bison would go down the toughest string of tests of the whole year to end this strange season. Oral Roberts came to town in the first of two straight home weekends. The Bison started off the series handing Oral Roberts their 4th conference loss of the year with a comfortable lead at 61-54. But the Golden Eagles' conference best shooters were on point again in the second night which proved to be too much for the Bison as they lost 74-80.
As you saw above, the Bison split their series against SDSU at home which keeps them on track to still put up a fight for the #1 spot in the conference! Now the Bison will head to Vermillion, South Dakota for the season concluding series against the Coyotes.

Women's Basketball
The Bison women have continued to surprise this year! The Bison have had their ups and downs since their 5 win streak. They split the series against Denver and in Kansas City. Then they swept Oral Roberts with convincing wins both nights.
South Dakota State came in and swept the Bison, but both losses were by 8 and 9.
This will be an interesting game if these two teams meet in the tournament.

Women's Soccer
The Bison women's soccer team swept Western Illinois this weekend. Both afternoons the Bison shutout Western Illinois!

Volleyball
The Bison will play tonight in South Dakota on ESPN3 at 7:00 PM.
They have cruised to a really great 6-2 start!

Football
The Bison football team played the first game of the Spring season today! They beat Youngstown State 25-7. It was definitely a big defensive game and it calmed my worries about there being a lapse on defense, but heightened my worries on offense. It is obvious this team is still adjusting to quarterback Zeb Noland, who was the former Iowa State transfer back in the Summer of 2019. Hopefully they can tighten things up for a traditional win next weekend in Southern Illinois.

Go Bison!
