Bison Sports Update: April 2nd

NDSU Athletics had a good week this week!

Softball
NDSU Softball travelled to Macomb, Illinois for a three game series at Western Illinois. The series was shifted slightly due to the weather, and instead of the doubleheader being played on Saturday, it was played on Sunday. The Bison had a rare struggle on Saturday, losing 5-6. Pitching wasn't as great as they were used to and the bats weren't doing well. Sunday, was a different story. Game 1 of the doubleheader was a pitching nailbiter for both teams. NDSU ended up winning, 1-0. The finale, was a blowout in favor of the Bison, winning 13-4 in 5 innings.
This week, the Bison will attempt to open up Tharaldson Park in Fargo with a three game series against South Dakota. Given that it is Easter weekend, NDSU will play the series starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 12 and 2 PM. Then they will conclude with the series finale on Saturday at 11 AM.

North Dakota State Softball is 5-1 in Summit League play and 21-12 on the season.

Baseball
NDSU Baseball had kind of an up and down week. The Bison started with a one-off game in Lincoln, Nebraska against the Cornhuskers. They lost a close one there, 1-4. Then over the weekend the Bison played a series against South Dakota State. Given the impending weather and field conditions in Brookings, the two teams played the games in a couple different locations. They started with a doubleheader on Friday in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Then they finished with the finale in Omaha at the baseball field of fellow Summit League member, the Omaha Mavericks on Saturday. NDSU won the series opener on Saturday, 10-2. They unfortunately lost the second one after a pitching meltdown in the final few innings. But on Saturday, the Bison won a nailbiter to seal the series win, 5-4.
This week, the Bison will not play a Summit League series, but instead they will travel back down Texas to play Texas Tech in a non-conference three game series from Thursday thru Saturday.

North Dakota State Baseball is 4-2 in Summit League play, and 7-20 overall on the season.

Also wanted to mention, that a very scary accident happened on Friday when the North Dakota State Volleyball team's bus went off the interstate on their way to an exhibition game in Beach, North Dakota. Fortunately all were ok, with no injuries.

Go Bison!!
