Bison Sports Update: March 19th

NDSU Athletics had a great week this week!

Women's Basketball
NDSU Women's Basketball on the other hand, did not have a great week. On Monday it was announced that the Bison would be heading to Eugene to play the Oregon Ducks in the first round of the WNIT. Unfortunately, it didn't go very well for NDSU. The Bison lost, 57-96. This ends NDSU's season.

The women had a great year, with a franchise best record since the school entered Division I. The Bison also posted the best home record in their DI era at 11-1. NDSU finished off the year with the highest seed achieved in the Summit League tournament, as well as the program's first appearance in the WNIT. The future is bright in Fargo, folks - keep an eye on the Bison next season!

North Dakota State Women's Basketball finishes their season with a 12-6 record in the Summit League, and an 18-12 record overall.

Softball
NDSU Softball had a great series of events this past week! After I posted my update last week, the Bison had their entire week of games out in Utah and Idaho cancelled. Then they schedule a four game schedule down in Oxford, Mississippi on Mississippi State's campus. They played the host, Mississippi State on Tuesday, and beat them 2-0. On Wednesday and Thursday, they played Purdue. They lost the first matchup, 2-1, and won the second matchup, 4-0. On Saturday, they finished their time in Mississippi with a 7-1 win over Samford. This concludes NDSU's non-conference schedule. They will now start Summit League play.
This week, the Bison will head down to Kansas City to play the Roos in a three game conference opening series. Like usual, the series will start on Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 PM CT. Then, it will conclude with the finale on Sunday at 11 AM.

North Dakota State Softball is 16-11 on the season.

Baseball
NDSU Baseball had a week of mixed emotions. The Bison finished their time in the Lone Star State with two series, the first one a two-game series at Texas and then a three game series at Houston Christian. NDSU lost both games at Texas, the first one a 7-2 decision, and the second one a 7-4 comeback by Texas. Then, over the weekend, the Bison won their first games since the middle of February. They won the series over Houston Christian, winning the series opener 10-7 and the second game 6-5. They lost the series finale 6-5. This should hopefully inject the team with a little confidence heading into the conference season, as this was their last non-conference series for a couple weeks.
This week, the Bison will visit the Mavericks in Omaha for a conference-opening 3-game series starting on Friday and going through Sunday.

North Dakota State Baseball is 3-17 on the season.

Also, wanted to wish a HUGE congratulations to the first NDSU Wrestling All-Americans since 2015 in freshman Michael Caliendo and senior Jared Franek! Franek finished 4th in his weight class and Caliendo finished 7th in his first collegiate season and NCAA tournament! Congrats guys!

Go Bison!!
