Bison Sports Update: March 3rd

Yeah, it was kind of a rough week.

Men's Basketball
NDSU Men's Basketball played the final week of the regular season this week. It sure looked like they just went through the motions. They started by getting handled in Vermillion on Thursday. On Saturday, they got dismantled by South Dakota State at home. Not exactly a good look for a team that before those two games was vying for a top seed in the tournament. Instead, the Bison fell all the way back to 5th.
Now that the regular season was over, NDSU will head to Sioux Falls next weekend for the Summit League tournament. The Bison fell to the 5th seed in the tournament and will play St. Thomas (the 4 seed) on Sunday at 6 PM CT. If NDSU advances to semifinal round, they would play on Monday night at 6 PM CT. The championship game will be on Tuesday at 8:30 PM CT. First round thru Semifinal games will be broadcasted on Midco Sports and the Summit League Network. The championship game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
North Dakota State Men's Basketball is 8-8 in Summit League play and 15-16 overall on the season.

Women's Basketball
NDSU Women's Basketball played their final regular season games this past week. The Bison welcomed South Dakota in on Thursday. NDSU defeated the Coyotes to complete a season sweep, and has now won 4 straight against USD. On Saturday, the Bison completed the regular season with a battle against SDSU in Brookings. NDSU managed to stay with the Jacks for the majority of the game, a feat not many teams can speak of this season, but lost their grasp in the final two minutes and lost by 15.
With the regular season over, now we move on to the Summit League tournament. NDSU earned the 2 seed in Sioux Falls. They will play 7th seeded Denver on Saturday at 12:30 PM CT. If the Bison advance, they would play on Monday at 3 PM CT. The championship game is scheduled for Tuesday at 3:30 PM CT. The first round and quarterfinal rounds will be broadcast on Midco Sports and the Summit League Network, and the semifinal and championship games will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
North Dakota State Women's Basketball is 13-3 in Summit League play and 19-10 overall on the season.

Softball
NDSU Softball traveled east to Tennessee for the Purple/Gold Challenge. The Bison beat Georgetown and challenge host Lipscomb on Friday, 9-2 and 8-1. On Saturday, NDSU lost narrowly to Murray State 2-0, but beat Lipscomb (again) 5-1. On Sunday, the Bison concluded the weekend with an 8 inning 4-3 victory over Georgetown.
This week, the Bison will head out West to play the Silicon Valley Classic. Starting on Friday, NDSU will play Santa Clara twice, Loyola Marymount, and San Jose State twice. Then, on Tuesday, NDSU will play a one-off at Pacific University in Stockton, CA.
North Dakota State Softball is 10-12 on the season.

Baseball
NDSU Baseball finished up their West Coast trip this past week with a visit to 6th ranked Oregon State for a four game series. Unfortunately for the Bison, they couldn't manage to beat the Beavers in 4 tries. The closest they got was a 6-5 defeat on Friday, when NDSU led 5-1 until the 7th inning when Oregon State batted 5 runs in to take the lead and eventually win the game. In fact, NDSU also had a lead in the opener on Thursday as well. This is becoming a pattern for the Bison, hopefully they can snap out of it.
This week, NDSU will head out to Louisiana for a weekend series at Southeastern Louisiana from Friday to Sunday. Then, on Tuesday, the Bison will head over to Baton Rouge to play LSU in a two game duel on Tuesday and Wednesday.
North Dakota State Baseball is 2-9 on the season.

Go Bison!!!
