Bison Sports Update: October 17th

Lots of cool Bison sports to unpack today, lets go!

Football
The NDSU Football team traveled to Normal, Illinois this Saturday to visit Illinois State. The team played very well. They did win 20-0 but that isn't the full story. Most of the game were punts back and forth for the teams. But NDSU was able to score on touchdowns with a Patterson to Watson short pass in the 1st quarter and also a T'Merrick Williams rushing score. Jake Reinholz also punched in two field goals, the first a 46 yarder to end the 1st half. The second was a 24 yard chip shot in the early part of the 4th quarter. Other then that it was a very defense game for both teams. NDSU seemed to pull back the passing attack for no reason in the 3rd and 4th quarters. This may be a big issue if they can't figure this out in the coming weeks. Teams like South Dakota State and South Dakota will capitalize on that if we aren't careful.
Other then that the defense was outstanding. They picked off the Redbirds' QB twice. Phoenix Sproles had his first notable day of the season, finishing the day with 3 catches for 46 yards highlighted by a 37 yard gain. Quincy Patterson had his best rushing day to date, ending with 18 carries for 100 yards. Quincy didn't have the best day passing. He ended the day 13 for 22 with 124 yards, 1 TD, but 2 picks. Fortunately the picks were not caused directly by Patterson, they bounced off receivers hands into the hands of the defenders.
The Bison will now come home to start a 2 game home stand. This starts next Saturday (10/23) against previously 22nd ranked Missouri State. Kickoff is at 2:30 PM CT.
North Dakota State Football is 3-0 in MVFC play and 6-0 overall on the year.

Volleyball
The NDSU Volleyball team had an interesting week. They started in Brookings playing rival South Dakota State. They lost that match, 3 sets to 1.
Then the Bison came home to play in-state rival North Dakota on Saturday with a packed house. They dominated UND in almost every faze of the game, winning in 3 sets! While UND is consistently a bottom dweller in the Summit League, it is good to get the win.
Now the Bison will go back on the road this week to play Oral Roberts in Tulsa on Thursday (7 PM) and Kansas City in Missouri on Saturday (1 PM).
North Dakota State Volleyball is 3-6 in Summit League play, and 9-12 overall on the year.

Women's Soccer
The NDSU Soccer team had a rough go of things this week. On Friday they visited South Dakota State and suffered a 3-0 shutout loss. Then on Sunday they visited South Dakota and lost 5-0. This team has struggled quite a bit this year. They hope to turn things around on Friday, October 22nd when they host Omaha at 6 PM CT over at Dacotah Field. Then they close the weekend with another home match against Denver on Sunday at 1 PM CT.
North Dakota State Women's Soccer is 2-3 in Summit League play and 2-9-1 overall on the year.

Go Bison!!
