Bison Sports Update: September 25

Not too much activity on campus this week, but I am adding some other content to supplant the football bye week

Volleyball
Usually I start with football, but Volleyball is the only team that played this week.
NDSU Volleyball opened Summit League play with two matches this week. They lost both matches. The first match was a 3 sets to 1 loss to Kansas City and the second a 3 sets to none blowout at the hands of Oral Roberts.
The team is back in action this week as they travel for a 3 match road trip. They will visit Vermillion to play South Dakota on Tuesday, Sept 28 at 7 PM. Then they head to Macomb, Illinois to play Western Illinois on Thursday, Sept 30 at 6 PM. Then they finish off their road trip with their first ever match against St. Thomas, Summit League newcomer (D3 to D1), on Saturday, Oct 2 at 3 PM.
North Dakota State Volleyball is 6-8 overall and 0-2 in Summit League play.

Football
The NDSU football team did not play this, they are on bye before conference play starts. So I thought I would highlight how the Pro Bison are doing in the NFL!
QBs:
Carson Wentz (QB - Indianapolis Colts)
Carson has struggled in his first 2 weeks of the season. Going into Week 3 he will be inactive after spraining both of his ankles last Sunday. He kept the Colts in the game at home against the high flying Rams defense but ultimately fell after his offensive line let in more sacks.
Stats: 45/69 att 498 yds 3 TD 1 INT 95 rating

Easton Stick(QB - Los Angeles Chargers)
Easton is the third string quarterback out in LA, behind starter Justin Herbert and second string vet Chase Daniel. Easton made some big plays for the Chargers in the preseason that made many question if Stick should be the Chargers first backup. But ultimately the team went with Daniel at backup and Easton at second backup.

Trey Lance(QB - San Francisco 49ers)
Trey made a splash this past summer when he went 3rd overall off the board to the Niners! Over the summer, it appeared that he might take the starting job from veteran Jimmy Garoppolo. But it was decided he would take the backup position behind Garoppolo. In Week 1, Lance was brought in during the 49ers first drive down in the redzone. Trey proceeded to throw a 5 yard TD in his first ever NFL snap! Trey is now the first 49ers rookie to score on their first NFL snap.
Stats: 1/1 5 yds 1 TD 127.1 rating

Offensive Line:
Billy Turner(RT - Green Bay Packers)
Turner has played in most, if not all, offensive snaps for the Packers this year in both of their games. The Packers are 1-1 on the season.

Dillon Radunz(OT - Tennessee Titans)
Dillon was just drafted this past summer along with Trey Lance. He was drafted 53rd overall (2nd round) to the Titans. He is currently the highest drafted non-QB in NDSU football history!
He was inactive in week 1 with injury. However he played some snaps in Tennessee's Week 2 overtime victory in Seattle.

Joe Haeg(OT - Pittsburgh Steelers)
Joe played on multiple special teams snaps in Week 1 and more ST and OL snaps in Week 2 for the Steelers.

Ben Ellefson (TE - Minnesota Vikings)
Ben is the first Bison alum to play for the hometown Vikings! He was inactive in Minnesota's Week 1 loss in Cincinnati. He did play plenty of snaps in their loss in Arizona this past Sunday.
Look for more from Ben in the coming weeks!

Defensive Players
Chris Board(DL - Baltimore Ravens)
Chris plays for the high flying Ravens and played 55 snaps in their Week 1 loss on Monday Night Football. He played quite a few more in their win in Week 2.

Jabril Cox(LB - Dallas Cowboys)
Mr. Cox was drafted this past summer as well, after playing in a grad season at LSU. He only played in special teams snaps in Week 1, but played some defensive snaps in Week 2.

Derrek Tuszka(DL - Pittsburgh Steelers)
Derrek is on the Steelers practice squad so far. He has not played a defensive snap this season so far.

NDSU has also seen lots of rumors surrounding realignment in the FBS. Texas and Oklahoma kicked off the talks after announcing they are leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.
Now it is being talked about that the AAC (FBS) will be expanding as well after multiple teams of theirs are rumored to be leaving for the Big 12. Two potential teams joining the AAC would be from another Group of 5 conference, the Mountain West conference. If the MWC needs more teams, they may extend an invite to North Dakota State for football only membership! As such, I am seeing more articles about NDSU's football dynasty in major outlets such as Fox Sports, which is really cool to see!

North Dakota State Football is 3-0 on the season and will travel to Grand Forks to play North Dakota on Saturday, Oct 2 at 2 PM CT.

Soccer
NDSU Soccer did not play this week either. They had a brief bye before opening conference play this week.
North Dakota State Soccer is 0-6-1 on the season and they open Summit League play this week in a 3 game homestand. They play on Friday, Oct 1 at 6 PM CT against Oral Roberts.

Go Bison!!
