NDSU Sports Update: Week of Sept. 10

Lots of Bison sports to uncover!

Football
Not sure how I let it slip, but the Bison have now had two great games to start the year! Last week the Bison played Albany at the Fargodome for the season/home opener! They had a great game overall! The entire team seamed to be a little skittish at the beginning. They led Albany 14-6 at halftime. The second half was a different story. The defense held Albany to no points and the offense tacked on 2 more scores.
This week, the Bison played on the 20th anniversary of September 11th, 2001. It was a very solemn start to the game. The GSMB held the moment of silence and played America the Beautiful in the 2nd quarter. The team walked out of the locker room with first responders. It was a very special moment.
The game that followed was quite the game for the Bison. Not much could be said for Valpo. The Bison were up 35-0 at halftime already. QB Quincy Patterson had 2 touchdowns by half and was subsequently pulled for the backups in the 3rd quarter. Sophomore QB Cam Miller had his first touchdown of the Fall 2021 season with a pass to RB Jalen Bussey in the 3rd quarter. True Freshman QB Cole Payton had his first spotlight moment as a Bison when he rushed for a 37 yard touchdown in the 4th quarter to close the scoring for the Bison on the day.
Overall it was a high scoring rout of Valpo and was a huge confidence booster for this young Bison team. They came in this week ranked only at 5th in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. Hopefully this provides more evidence they should be ranked higher.

North Dakota State Football moves to 2-0 on the year and visits Towson to close the non-conference portion of their schedule this year. Kickoff is at 5 PM out in Maryland on Saturday, September 18th.

Volleyball
NDSU volleyball has had quite the week! They finished last weekend's classic with a 2-1 record at the classic and won this weekend's tournament at Cal 3-0! They beat big teams like Nevada, Cal and Butler! This team should be feeling good heading into the last non-conference classic of the season!

North Dakota State Volleyball is 6-3 on the year and travels to Portland, Oregon next weekend for the Portland State Tournament where they will play Portland State and Gonzaga. The first match is on Friday, September 17th at 9 PM on ESPN+.

Soccer
The NDSU soccer team has had a rough go of things lately. The Bison ladies have not yet won a game this year and they suffered another non-conference loss to Creighton on Thursday, 2-0.

North Dakota State Soccer is 0-5-1 on the year and travels to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to play Marquette on Friday, September 17th, for their last non-conference game of the year. Kickoff is at 7 PM.

Lots of reason to love the Bison right now!
Go Bison!!!
