Yeah, neither team had a great week.
Softball NDSU Softball came back home this week to host Kansas City for senior weekend. Unfortunately for the seniors, the team didn't play very well. The Bison fell completely flat in games 1 and 3, and had a rare offensive explosion in game 2 that ended in 5 innings. NDSU lost the series 1-2. This week, the Bison will head down to Vermillion to play South Dakota in the final series of the regular season starting on Saturday. As it stands right now, NDSU would be the 6th seed for the Summit League tournament in Brookings in two weeks. North Dakota State Softball is 4-11 in Summit League play and 17-33 overall on the season. Baseball NDSU Baseball continued the homestand this week, as they hosted Mayville State on Tuesday for a midweek tilt. The Bison made quick work of the Comets, winning 13-3 in 7 innings. Then they moved on to the home series against Omaha. The series was shifted to a Saturday doubleheader and Sunday finale due to rain. The two teams split the doubleheader, before ending in a tie on Sunday due to excess rain in the 8th inning. This week, the Bison will briefly hit the road to go play Iowa in Iowa City on Wednesday before returning home to host St. Thomas for a weekend series beginning on Friday. North Dakota State Baseball is 9-8-1 in Summit League play and 13-24-1 overall on the season. Go Bison!!

It was a tale of two teams this week for the Bison.
Softball NDSU Softball ventured the short distance up north to faceoff against UND. They lost all three games including the opener that they led until the 7th inning. This week, the Bison will return home to play Kansas City starting with a doubleheader on Saturday and the finale on Sunday. North Dakota State Softball is 3-9 in Summit League play and 16-31 on the season. Baseball NDSU Baseball was supposed to start the week with a visit to Minnesota - but that was cancelled due to some mid-week rain in Minneapolis. So they moved on to the home series against ORU. This series was also adjusted due to some late April cold weather on Friday. In the doubleheader on Saturday, the teams split with ORU taking the first game and NDSU taking the second on a walk off hit by Garret Hill. That would prove to provide deja vu on Sunday with Garret Hill hitting the walk off hit again to take the series for NDSU! This week, the Bison will stay home again and host Mayville State on Tuesday. Then they will welcome in Omaha over the weekend for a three game series. North Dakota State Baseball is 9-6 in Summit League play and 12-22 overall on the season. Go Bison!! Bison Athletics didn't have the greatest week.
Softball NDSU Softball hosted rival and league-leader South Dakota State this weekend. They had no luck and lost all three games. The opener was a pitching duel that only finished with SDSU winning because of an early home run. This week, they will head briefly to the north to play UND in Grand Forks. The series will start with a doubleheader on Saturday and the finale on Sunday. North Dakota State Softball is 3-6 in Summit League play and 16-28 overall on the season. Baseball NDSU Baseball visited Minneapolis on Tuesday to play Minnesota. That one wasn't close, losing 11-3. Then they traveled out to Greeley to play Northern Colorado. NDSU absolutely collapsed on Friday late to lose 12-13. But the Bison would take care of business the next two games to take the series over UNC. This week, NDSU will return back to Minneapolis for the last game against the Gophers for the season. Then they will head home to host Oral Roberts for the weekend series beginning on Friday. North Dakota State Baseball is 7-5 in Summit League play and 10-21 overall on the season. Go Bison!!! Kind of a rough week for Bison athletics..
Softball NDSU Softball took a last trip out to the West Coast this week for their final non-conference games, against UNLV. The Bison gave the Rebels everything they could handle in the series opener, and emerged victorious after 9 innings, 2-1. However, they expended all that energy in that game, and couldn't find the win column in the next two games and lost the series. This week, the Bison will head back home to Tharaldson Park to host league-leading South Dakota State for a 3 game series. It begins with a doubleheader on Saturday. North Dakota State Softball is 3-3 in Summit League play and 16-25 overall on the season. Baseball NDSU Baseball opened up Newman Outdoor Field this weekend against SDSU. This continues their struggle against their archrivals to the south from last season, when they couldn't beat them in the Summit League tournament. This week, NDSU will hit the road again. First, they will head down to Minneapolis to play the Gophers on Tuesday. Then, the Bison will head out to Greeley to play a 3 game conference series against Northern Colorado starting on Friday. North Dakota State Baseball is 5-4 in Summit League play and 8-19 overall on the season. Go Bison!! It was a decent week for the Bison.
Women's Basketball NDSU Women's basketball went to Minneapolis on Friday to play the Gophers in the Super 16 round of the WNIT. While the Bison kept with Minnesota for the majority of the game, they just couldn't keep a lead. NDSU was able to gain a 3 point lead with just over 2 minutes left in the game, but did not score another point and committed two costly turnovers to fall to the Gophers and end their season. It was a great year for the program though! 22 wins is the most in the Division I era, and made their first Summit League championship game! They also won a game in the WNIT, which is another first! There is a bright future for this program despite one of its best players in Heaven Hamling graduating in May. Great season ladies, and we look forward to next season!! North Dakota State Women's Basketball finishes the season with a 13-3 record in Summit League play and a 22-13 overall record. Softball NDSU Softball opened up Tharaldson Park for the first time in 2024 this weekend! They hosted St. Thomas, for the program's first games at home in March in the Division I era. The Bison had their way with the Tommies in almost every game. The opener was a 4-0 decision victory, but the second being a 13-4 game that ended in 5 innings and finale a 12-9 game that was 12-2 early. NDSU now moves on to April. North Dakota State Softball is 3-3 in Summit League play and 15-23 overall on the season. Baseball NDSU Baseball was supposed to play St. Thomas in St. Paul this weekend. However, due to the snowstorm that moved through the Twin Cities this past week, the field was not ready to play. The series has been postponed to a later date yet to be announced. This week, the Bison will head down to Omaha to play Creighton on Wednesday in a one-off game at 6 PM CT. Then, on Friday, they will head back to Fargo to open up Newman Outdoor Field for the first time in 2024. NDSU athletics had a decent week.
Women's Basketball NDSU women's basketball played in their first postseason game in 24 years, as Montana came to town on Monday for the WNIT second round game. The Bison went out and pressured the Griz all game, and finished on top! NDSU won 72-63, and will now await the winner of Minnesota-Pacific on Tuesday in Minneapolis. The Super 16 matchup will be determined by Wednesday and will be played before Friday. North Dakota State women's basketball is 13-3 in Summit League play and 22-11 overall on the season. Softball NDSU softball had a rough week this week. The Bison played their Summit League opener this weekend at Omaha. The Mavericks bested the Bison in all three games and completed the sweep. North Dakota State softball is 0-3 in Summit League play and 12-23 overall on the season. Baseball NDSU baseball had a decent week. This kind of was a weird week for Bison athletics.

The second round will take place from the Saturday to Tuesday. North Dakota State Women's Basketball is 13-3 in Summit League play and 21-11 overall on the season. Softball NDSU Softball had a rough week last week. The Bison finished their trip to California with four games at the Saint Mary's Tournament. NDSU went 1-3, with their lone win a 2-0 nailbiter against Marist on Saturday. They lost 2 out of 3 in regulation, and the 3rd ended in a mercy rule 2-12 game in the 5th inning. This week, the Bison will begin Summit League play. They will head over to Omaha to play the Mavericks in a typical three game series that will feature a double-header on Saturday with the lone finale on Sunday. North Dakota State Softball is 12-20 overall on the season. Baseball NDSU Baseball had a great week! The Bison began Summit League play over the weekend in Omaha. NDSU won the series opener and finale, dropping the 2nd game which took place on the same day as the finale due to incoming weather. This is the first season of any kind that NDSU has won this season! This week, the Bison will head over to Lincoln to play Nebraska on Wednesday for a one-off non-conference game. On Friday, NDSU will travel to Tulsa to play Oral Roberts in another Summit League 3-game series. North Dakota State Baseball is 2-1 in Summit League play and 5-14 overall on the season. Go Bison! NDSU athletics had what we call, a week.
Men's Basketball NDSU Men's Basketball was in Sioux Falls this past weekend for the Summit League tournament. The Bison played St. Thomas in the quarterfinals, however NDSU was really only in the game for the first 8 minutes. Even still, they didn't look like they wanted to be there. NDSU looked like a shell of their former selves, and lost by 10 even though they were down by 20 for most of the game. This concludes the season for the Bison. North Dakota State Men's Basketball finishes the season 8-8 in Summit League play and 15-17 overall. Women's Basketball NDSU Women's Basketball was also in Sioux Falls this past weekend. The Bison played Denver in the quarterfinals, and handled them to get their first appearance in the semifinals in three years. In the semifinals, NDSU defeated Oral Roberts after leading by ten for most of the game. The Bison then made history, making their first Summit League championship game, as well as the first 20 win season since 2004-05. Unfortunately, NDSU would fall to top-seeded SDSU in the title game, even though they were close for the entire game until the final few minutes when the Jacks pulled away. The Bison will now wait to see if they get a bid to either the new NCAA sponsored WBIT (unlikely) or the WNIT. Selections are announced this Sunday, March 17th. North Dakota State Women's Basketball is 13-3 in Summit League play and 21-11 overall on the season. Softball NDSU Softball went out west this week for the Silicon Valley Classic. To make it simple, the Bison lost all five games of the classic this weekend, with one of them going to extra innings. On Tuesday, the Bison went over to Stockton to play Pacific and won in 8 innings! This week, the Bison will finish out their trip out west and play in the Saint Mary's Tournament. On Friday they will play Marist and tournament host Saint Mary's, and then the same thing again on Saturday. North Dakota State Softball is 11-17 overall on the season. Baseball NDSU Baseball took a trip over to Louisiana this week, first for a three game series at Southeastern Louisiana. The Bison managed to win the series opener, but were unable to keep a lead in the next two games and lost the series. On Tuesday and Wednesday NDSU played 2nd ranked LSU for a two game duel. NDSU lost both games, however neither ended early. This has been the highest ranked team at the time that the program has played. This week, the Bison will start Summit League play. They will head over to Omaha to play the Mavericks in the conference opening 3-game series. That starts on Friday! As a reminder, all conference games will be broadcast on the Summit League network. North Dakota State Baseball is 3-13 overall on the season. Go Bison!! Yeah, it was kind of a rough week.
Men's Basketball NDSU Men's Basketball played the final week of the regular season this week. It sure looked like they just went through the motions. They started by getting handled in Vermillion on Thursday. On Saturday, they got dismantled by South Dakota State at home. Not exactly a good look for a team that before those two games was vying for a top seed in the tournament. Instead, the Bison fell all the way back to 5th. Now that the regular season was over, NDSU will head to Sioux Falls next weekend for the Summit League tournament. The Bison fell to the 5th seed in the tournament and will play St. Thomas (the 4 seed) on Sunday at 6 PM CT. If NDSU advances to semifinal round, they would play on Monday night at 6 PM CT. The championship game will be on Tuesday at 8:30 PM CT. First round thru Semifinal games will be broadcasted on Midco Sports and the Summit League Network. The championship game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network. North Dakota State Men's Basketball is 8-8 in Summit League play and 15-16 overall on the season. NDSU defeated the Coyotes to complete a season sweep, and has now won 4 straight against USD. On Saturday, the Bison completed the regular season with a battle against SDSU in Brookings. NDSU managed to stay with the Jacks for the majority of the game, a feat not many teams can speak of this season, but lost their grasp in the final two minutes and lost by 15. With the regular season over, now we move on to the Summit League tournament. NDSU earned the 2 seed in Sioux Falls. They will play 7th seeded Denver on Saturday at 12:30 PM CT. If the Bison advance, they would play on Monday at 3 PM CT. The championship game is scheduled for Tuesday at 3:30 PM CT. The first round and quarterfinal rounds will be broadcast on Midco Sports and the Summit League Network, and the semifinal and championship games will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network. North Dakota State Women's Basketball is 13-3 in Summit League play and 19-10 overall on the season. Softball NDSU Softball traveled east to Tennessee for the Purple/Gold Challenge. The Bison beat Georgetown and challenge host Lipscomb on Friday, 9-2 and 8-1. On Saturday, NDSU lost narrowly to Murray State 2-0, but beat Lipscomb (again) 5-1. On Sunday, the Bison concluded the weekend with an 8 inning 4-3 victory over Georgetown. This week, the Bison will head out West to play the Silicon Valley Classic. Starting on Friday, NDSU will play Santa Clara twice, Loyola Marymount, and San Jose State twice. Then, on Tuesday, NDSU will play a one-off at Pacific University in Stockton, CA. North Dakota State Softball is 10-12 on the season. Baseball NDSU Baseball finished up their West Coast trip this past week with a visit to 6th ranked Oregon State for a four game series. Unfortunately for the Bison, they couldn't manage to beat the Beavers in 4 tries. The closest they got was a 6-5 defeat on Friday, when NDSU led 5-1 until the 7th inning when Oregon State batted 5 runs in to take the lead and eventually win the game. In fact, NDSU also had a lead in the opener on Thursday as well. This is becoming a pattern for the Bison, hopefully they can snap out of it. This week, NDSU will head out to Louisiana for a weekend series at Southeastern Louisiana from Friday to Sunday. Then, on Tuesday, the Bison will head over to Baton Rouge to play LSU in a two game duel on Tuesday and Wednesday. North Dakota State Baseball is 2-9 on the season. Go Bison!!! This week, the Bison had a really nice time.
Men's Basketball NDSU Men's Basketball hosted St. Thomas on Thursday of this week. The Bison struggled to start the game, but found their footing towards the end of the 1st half and cruised to a 64-50 victory. Then, on Saturday, the Bison hosted in-state rival UND for a doubleheader. NDSU was able to claim victory in an instant classic that reminded more seasoned fans of the older days of this rivalry. The Bison won 73-68 in front of a SHAC record crowd of 5,058! This week, the Bison will close out the regular season. NDSU will first hit the road on Thursday to play South Dakota in Vermillion, and they hope to avenge their loss to the Coyotes they took at home back in late December. That game will tip off at 7 PM CT and will be broadcast on the Summit League Network. Then, on Saturday, the Bison will close out the regular season at home against their archrivals from SDSU. That game will start at 1 PM CT and will be broadcast on WDAY Xtra and the Summit League Network. With only a week to go in the season, I figure I should update y'all on the scenarios for the Bison as far as seeding goes. In order for NDSU to nab the 1 seed (which is still possible) this needs to happen: NDSU needs to win both games this week, SDSU needs to lose both games, UND needs to beat SDSU but lose on Saturday, and KC needs to win one or more games. If something doesn't happen in there and the Bison win their games, then NDSU will most likely claim the 2 or 3 seed. If NDSU loses both games, they could drop all the way down to 6 at worst. North Dakota State Men's Basketball is 8-6 in Summit League play and 15-14 overall on the season. Women's Basketball NDSU Women's Basketball went on a brief roadtrip on Thursday to play St. Thomas. The Bison ended the game practically 2 mins into the 2nd quarter, and set the car to cruise control en route to a 96-53 blowout victory. On Saturday, the Bison played the second half of the UND doubleheader and thoroughly handled their in-state rivals for the second time this season, winning 107-80 in front of the largest home crowd this team has since in their Division I era. Its also the first time in program history that the Bison have scored 100+ points in both games against UND in a season. With their wins this week, NDSU clinched their spot as the number 2 seed in the Summit League tournament. Along with the Bison, SDSU clinched their number 1 seed spot for the third straight year, and ORU and USD clinched their spots at 3 and 4. Also, the Bison now have won 7 games in a row, which is the longest winning streak in their Division I history. This week, the Bison will host South Dakota on Thursday for Senior Night as they will say goodbye to Summit League standout Heaven Hamling. That game will tip off at 7 PM CT and will be broadcast on WDAY Xtra and the Summit League Network. Then, on Saturday, NDSU will close out the regular season with a road game against SDSU. That game will start at 2 PM CT and will be broadcast on the Summit League Network. North Dakota State Women's Basketball is 12-2 in Summit League play and 18-9 overall on the season. Softball NDSU Softball took a trip to College Station, Texas this past weekend for the Texas A&M Invitational. However, the Bison struggled and lost all 5 games, three in under 7 innings. Friday included a 1-5 decision loss to SE Louisiana and a 10-0 thrashing by 18th ranked Texas A&M in 5 innings. Saturday played out with an 3-8 loss to Kansas as well as yet another 10-0 5 inning defeat by the Aggies. Sunday concluded with a 6 inning 15-6 explosion by Kansas. This concludes the month of February for NDSU. In the month of March, NDSU will play a few tournaments before starting Summit League play in Omaha at the end of the month. This week, the Bison will head over to Nashville, Tennessee to play in the Purple/Gold Challenge. They will play Georgetown and host Lipscomb on Friday, Murray State and Lipscomb (again) on Saturday, and then conclude with Georgetown (again) on Sunday. However, on Saturday and Sunday, they won their first games of the season with 9-7 and 6-4 victories. This week, the Bison will travel up the coast to play Oregon State in a rare 4-game series. On Thursday they will finish the month of February when they begin the series. If you are interested in watching the Bison play, they will be on an online stream in each of the four games. North Dakota State Baseball is 2-5 on the season. Go Bison!! |
