Rough Week for Bison Athletics

4/19/2021

Yeah its been a tough week to be a Bison.

Football
The guys played a long hard fought game. Unfortunately the NDSU defense wasn't quite up for the task and gave up the game sealing touchdown.
Both teams traded punts for the most of the first half, until SDSU broke the ice in the second quarter. Then the teams traded field goals in to halftime.
Out of halftime the Bison came out swinging, scoring a touchdown on the first drive.
However, SDSU responded with their own soon after. Just after the fourth quarter began, NDSU punched in another touchdown to tie the game again, this time at 17.
SDSU still was able to punch through NDSU's defense and kicked a field goal with 5 and a half minutes remaining. NDSU lined up to make a bid to tie or take the lead. Two straight throws almost had NDSU across half field. But both fell incomplete and the Bison were forced to punt. SDSU then scored another touchdown to seal the game. SDSU wins their 4th ever Dakota Marker trophy.

The 2021 FCS Playoffs were seeded on Sunday. The top 4 seeds are South Dakota State, Sam Houston State, James Madison, Jacksonville State. NDSU technically was unseeded, but would be the 7th seed if they were to be given a number. They will face Eastern Washington on Saturday, April 24 at 2:30 PM at home in Fargo, ND. If they win, they will face the winner of #2 Sam Houston State vs. Monmouth.

North Dakota State Football finishes the regular season at 5-2 in MVFC play, 6-2 overall.

Baseball
The NDSU baseball team was able to play 3 out of their 4 games against Oral Roberts. They were able to win the first game of the double header on Saturday, 14-11. But they lost the other side of it and lost the Friday opener. Sunday's finale was cancelled due to snow.
The Bison are back in action next Friday, when they visit South Dakota State for a four game series. The first of Friday's double header starts at 12 PM.
North Dakota State Baseball is 23-10 overall and 12-7 in Summit League play.

Softball
The NDSU softball team hosted Iowa State this weekend. They were able to play Saturday's game as Friday's was cancelled to unknown reasons. They lost Saturday's game 10-4. Sunday's game started and made it through 2 innings before it was called off due to snow.
The Bison are back in action next Saturday, April 24 when they visit Omaha for a four game series. First pitch is at 12 PM for the first of Saturday's double header.
North Dakota State Softball is 12-21 overall and 7-5 in Summit League play.

Hopefully next week is a much better week. Go Bison!
